Message from Deshan

I got this email from Deshan and he wants us to be at Royal on the 10th:

Hi all,
With regard to my mail on the 02nd of January I write to confirm that the planned Extraordinary General Meeting of the Debaters' Council will be held on the 10th of January (Saturday) at 3.00 p.m. The location for the meeting will be Royal College, Colombo 07 - Union Auditorium (If I'm not mistaken this is closer to the 01st gate to your right when you arrive from the Flower road side. But if you are lost, I'm told you just need to ask someone there for the Union gate after which Union auditorium shouldn't be too hard to find).
For those of you who have this question in mind, I don't expect the meeting to last till longer than 4.30 p.m if we start on time. Give or take half an hour.
On the agenda for the meeting, amongst others will be the following

  • Discussion of the final restructure recommendation
  • Discussion of administrative issues surrounding the incorporation
  • Passing a resolution to the effect that the DC Society will move towards incorporating the Debaters' Council (Charity) and that all assets of the Society will be transferred to the new Charity upon incorporation
  • Approving a resolution to the effect that Clause 4.3.1 of the current DC constitution (requiring the Annual General Meeting of the DC to be held in December of every year) will not apply until the incorporation process is complete and that the current Steering Committee will hold office until such time.
I hope you have all read through the finalized proposal and will arrive laden with good suggestions and opinions :-)
It is essential that all institutions who hope to be members of the DC Charity (both Schools and Universities) be present at this meeting as the application materials will be handed over at the meeting, followed by a briefing on how the process is to be carried out. Please ensure that your institutions are represented at a relatively high level for the purposes of you own convenience (The presence of the Teacher in Charge is not necessary, although would be greatly appreciated).
We invite all other stakeholders of the DC to also attend this meeting and voice your opinion on the matters discussed.
All individuals present will be allowed to vote (albeit one vote each) as separate individuals, as the DC currently has no formalized membership process.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require any further information.
Best,
Deshan Pushparajah
Secretary
